Getting Connected In Your New Home

Moving into your new home can be an exciting time,  but making sure your services are connected when you move in can be stressful . In this day an age we understand how important is it to have an active internet connection at the time of handover, whether it be for the kids, for you to work from home or to enjoy a movie on netflix. Here is some information and some things to check prior to handover.

Internal Provisions

During the building stages your builder will engage their electrical company to run a conduit internally from the external wall of the house to where the equipment will be installed inside your home. Depending on what NBN connection type you have available in your area will determine what equipment you will require.

Undergrounds

Your builder should engage an NBN accredited company like Astrotec to install underground lead in conduit from from the side of your new home to the provisioning provided by the developer.

This may be the case in new build estates, but existing homes in brown areas or areas with overhead network, may require extra works in the street to complete the connection. Astrotec has the capabilities to bore, trench and drill conduits or provide new network pit and pipe in the event that there is a network shortfall.

Damages & Repairs

We understand that damages and service strike do happen during the building process. It’s crucial to repair the damage correctly and as quickly as possible, improper fixes can lead to issues like internet dropouts or blocked conduits in the future.  Astrotec Communications can send a team of our accredited pit and pipe installers to identify and develop a solution for ANY damaged conduit.

Cabling

An Accredited NBN contractor will come to your home and complete a fit-off. This involves hauling a cable (fibre, coaxial or copper) from the network in the street and mount a PCD ( Premises Connection Device or utility box) on your external wall.

Another cable will be ran from the PCD to the NTD (Network Termination Device) box inside your house, thus completing the connection.

Contacting your ISP

Once all the cabling works are complete, its time to contact your preferred ISP (Internet Service Provider) to choose a plan and get your NBN connected.
